Tamil Nadu extends lockdown

The decision comes as the state government did not want to take a risk.

Due to a slight increase in COVID cases in Tamil Nadu, the restrictions have been increased till August 9, with no additional relaxations.

The cases were declining for quite a few months but now the number has increased.

The decision comes as the state government did not want to take a risk. Districts like Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu and Kallakuruchi are being observed very seriously.

Tamil Nadu has experienced a spike in COVID-related deaths due to insufficient supply of beds and oxygen and with the expectations of a third wave the state government is speeding up the vaccination process.
