Tamil Nadu: Eight held for consuming 'human flesh'

They reportedly belong to the 'Samiyadi'(god-man) community.

Eight people in Kallurani village in Tenkasi tehsil of Tamil Nadu have been held for allegedly consuming human flesh during a temple festival at Sakthi Pothi Sudalai Madasamy Temple on Saturday.

As per a video captured during the annual event, one Samiyadi was seen entering a trance, dancing and holding a human skull on a sword. A few other Samiyadis were caught on camera trying to bite the remaining tissue on the skull.

 

After the atrocious incident, the village administrative officer filed a complaint, the accused were detained for questioning.

 

When the police asked them about allegedly having exhumed and consumed human remains, they said they were not aware of the human remains and did not know what they were doing since they were in a trance.

 

"A case under Section 297 of the Indian Penal Code, that is trespassing in burial grounds, has been registered. They also violated social distancing norms," said Tenkasi Superintendent of Police Krishnaraj.

 

Futher probe is underway by the police.
