Three-day state mourning declared in UP on Kalyan Singh's demise

A one-day public holiday in the state on August 23 has also been announced.

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kalyan Singh, breathed his last at around 9.15 pm on Saturday, in Lucknow after a prolonged illness. He was 89 years old.
 
Condoling the death of Kalyan Singh, the present UP CM Yogi Adityanath has declared three-day state mourning. He has also announced a one-day public holiday in the state on August 23.
 
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kalyan's residence at 10 am to pay last respect and tribute. Although it has not been officially confirmed yet.
 
PM Modi in his condolence message said, "I am saddened by the demise of Kalyan Singh ji. Generations to come will remain forever grateful to Kalyan Singh Ji for his contributions towards India's cultural regeneration. He was firmly rooted in Indian values and took pride in our centuries old traditions."
