Twitter had removed the blue tick (which means verified profile) from the personal Twitter handle of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu @MVenkaiahNaidu on Saturday.
However, the official handle of the Vice President of India, @VPSecretariat, continues to have the blue tick. Venkaiah Naidu's personal Twitter handle has over 13 lakh followers and official handle has 9.3 lakh followers.
This was also confirmed by the office of Vice President. The personal account of Venkaiah Naidu was inactive for six months and the blue badge has gone, as stated from the office.
Nevertheless, the blue tick was restored within a few hours, supposedly when objections were raised by the Vice President's office. The Ministry of Electronics and IT is likely to issue notice to Twitter, to ask why this was done without "prior intimation". Government sources called it an outrageous act and assault to Indian constitution as against an important constitutional head of the country.
The verified blue tick means the account is authentic, notable person/organization/brands etc. and is active. Twitter removes the blue tick, if the account becomes inactive or incomplete, or if they are no longer in the position you initially were verified for or if they do not otherwise meet Twitter's criteria for verification.
In another claim Rajiv Tuli, RSS Delhi state executive member stated that Twitter has removed the blue ticks of RSS office bearers. "Venkaiah Naidu is not the only one, the blue tick from the Twitter handle of Suresh Joshi, popularly known as Bhaiyyaji Joshi, has also been removed. Twitter India removed blue ticks of many handles of @RSSorg office bearers.”
He said they are trying to get in touch but got no response.
