UP bride calls off wedding 'sixth phera', says 'I don't like groom'

It is reported that before the bride untied the wedding knot all events had taken place smoothly

A woman of Uttar Pradesh’s Mahoba called off her wedding after the sixth phera. The incident took place in a village in Kulpahad tehsil. As per the Hindu tradition, seven (saath) pheras or rounds are taken around the fire by the bride and the groom to complete the marriage.


Though the relatives from both sides tried their best to persuade her for marriage but the bride refused to change her decision.


Even the panchayat was called in the middle of the night to intrude in the matter, but bride’s decision remained unchanged. At last left with no option, the groom and his relatives had no option but to go back. The bride stated that she does not like groom.


It is reported that before the bride untied the wedding knot all events had taken place smoothly. The guests were happily clicking picture with the bride and the groom and no sign of any tension or argument was reported on the day of the wedding. The groom’s father also raised concerns that if the bride was not willing to marry then why did she had participate in other rituals of the wedding.


In another incident a few days ago, a woman from Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh refused to marry the groom on the wedding day as he was unable to read the newspaper without spectacle.
