Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Saturday opined that a complete lockdown should be imposed in Mumbai in view of the worrying COVID-19 behaviour of the people.
Pednekar said that 95 per cent of Mumbaikars are adhering to COVID-19 restrictions but the remaining 5 per cent are a big worry as they are causing problems to others with their behaviour.
While speaking to media, she said, "95% of Mumbaikars are adhering to COVID-19 restrictions. The remaining 5% of people who are not following restrictions are causing problems to others."
"I think a complete lockdown should be imposed looking at the current COVID-19 situation," she added.
Talking about the under-fire Kumbh Mela, Pednekar said, "Those returning from Kumbh Mela to their respective states will distribute Corona as 'prasad'. All these people should be quarantined in their respective states at their own cost. In Mumbai also, we're thinking of putting them under quarantine on their return."
The BMC Mayor's comments have a day after a man was arrest in Mumbai for refusing to wear a mask and assaulting a policeman who objected to the violation.
