J&K: Two-year-old killed in mysterious blast at BJP worker's residence

The family informed that a grenade had been thrown at their house.

In a mysterious grenade blast, one child has been killed and seven people were injured at the residence of a Bharatiya Janata Party worker in Rajouri, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said. A two-year-old nephew of the saffron party worker later died from injuries sustained in the blast while receiving treatment at a government hospital.

"It is being seen that where was grenade hurled from. Police lodged an FIR. One child died, seven people are injured. All of them belong to one family. An investigation is underway," Rajesh Kumar Shavan, DC Rajouri said.

The family informed that a grenade had been thrown at their house. Initial reports suggest it exploded on the rooftop. It comes a day after a 24-year-old man was murdered inside his house in Rajouri, prompting locals to block the Jammu-Poonch highway.

This incident once again highlights the security threat to civilians, especially BJP workers, in the Valley. Security has been beefed up across J&K ahead of Independence Day. Meanwhile, the BJP has strongly condemned the attack and appealed to the police to immediately arrest those responsible.
