West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee will launch the ‘Khela Hobe’ programme at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Monday.
The key political slogan of the Bengal's ruling party in the run-up to the recently concluded assembly elections in the state is now the government’s flagship scheme for the youth. A jingle was also prepared on the slogan, which went viral on social media.
"It has been decided that registered clubs will be given football ofJOYEE (STRIKER) brand under the Khela Hobe programme to encourage the youth and students for playing football and thereby to developed sports activities in the State," the state government had earlier announced.
Mamata will be handing over the footballs, handmade by the state's refugee handicrafts unit, to various sports clubs, they stated. "M/S Refugee Handicrafts will supply the footballs for this purpose well ahead of the programme," it had said.
District officials have already submitted names of clubs that are eligible for the initiative to the state secretariat, the official added.
