Tripura: BJP Tripura chief and Rajya Sabha MP Manik Saha has been declared the new Chief Minister of Tripura on Saturday, ahead of the state assembly election to be held early next year.
Manik Saha tweeted, "Being elected as [BJP's] Legislative Party Leader, met the Hon'ble Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted the claim to form the government with the letter of support from my party legislatures."
On Saturday afternoon. Biplab Kumar Deb tendered his resignation. He is likely to take over as the president of BJP's Tripura wing. I will never leave Tripura, I will stay here for the people of Tripura," Deb said. Biplab Deb proposed Manik Saha's name for the post of chief minister.
WHO IS MANIK SAHA?
Manik Saha left Congress and joined the BJP in 2016.
In 2020, he became the president of BJP Tripura.
He was highly credited for his party's victory in all 13 civic body polls held in November 2021 in Tripura.
Apart from politics, he is also the President of Tripura Cricket Association.
According to top sources, Manik Saha does not belong to any camp within the BJP.
Manik Saha is a dentist by profession.
Manik Saha is not the first 'Manik' to be the chief minister of Tripura. Before him, CPI(M)'s Manik Sarkar served as the chief minister for 20 years till 2018.
After the official announcement of Tripura BJP, Union minister Bhupender Yadav tweeted, "Many congratulations to Shri Manik Saha ji for being elected the leader of Tripura BJP Legislature Party. I am sure that Tripura will reach new heights of development under the guidance and leadership of respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji."
