No attack on Mamata, injury accidental: EC probe report

The observers had ruled out the possibility of an attack.

Special observers Election Commission of India Vivek Dubey and Ajay Nayak have concluded in a report that the injury to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram was “accidental”.

According to sources, the observers had ruled out the possibility of an attack, claiming a heavy police force was deployed around Didi at the time of the incident.

Dubey and Nayak inspected the “accident” site before submitting the detailed report to the EC on Saturday evening, the sources said.

Earlier, remarking a report sent yesterday by Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay “sketchy”, the poll body had asked the state to furnish a detailed report, elaborating claims made so far.

An official said, “This report appears sketchy. It doesn’t mention how it happened or who can be behind it. We have sought details from the government.”
