Odisha will be slum-free by 2023, focus on improving welfare: Minister

The state will focus on improving health and education and strengthening drinking water

Odisha's Housing and City Growth Minister, Pratap Jena in social media on Friday said that Odisha will be made slum-free by 2023 as the state is focusing on improving health and education and will strengthen drinking water supplies among other welfare measures


Naveen Patnaik the Chief Minister had launched the slum upgradation programme last year.


Last year, in the launch he told that all slums in the state would be converted into model colonies in the next three years.


The Odisha government on Thursday directed all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to ensure that 25 per cent of their respective annual budgets are spent on the development of slums under their jurisdiction.


According to the Housing and City Growth Division’s that rupees 2,895 crore which excludes salaries shall be allotted to the 114 ULBs through the two financial years 2020 -21 and 2021-22 out of which Rs 723.75 crore will be spent on slum improvement.
