PM Modi urges people to vote in record numbers in Assam, West Bengal

Urging those eligible to vote in record numbers, says Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took to his official Twitter account and urged people to cast votes in record numbers as voting for the first phase of assembly elections began in West Bengal and Assam.

"The first phase of elections begin in Assam. Urging those eligible to vote in record numbers. I particularly call upon my young friends to vote," Modi's tweet read.

In a another tweet, he wrote, "Today, Phase 1 of the West Bengal Assembly elections begin. I would request all those who are voters in the seats polling today to exercise their franchise in record numbers."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has full confidence to retain power in Assam and defeat the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal. While the Assam Assembly elections will take place in three phases, the assembly elections in Bengal will take place in eight phases. The counting of votes will be on May 2.
