Punjab Congress crisis: Capt. Amrinder Singh resigns as CM

The development comes ahead of a crucial meet of the state unit's Legislature party meeting

It is curtains for Captain Amrinder Singh as he tendered his resignation from his current role as Punjab's chief minister.

The development comes ahead of a crucial meet of the state unit's Legislature party meeting called in the midst of a growing clamour for a change of guard in the poll-bound region.

There were hectic political developments in Chandigarh following the midnight tweet put out by AICC General Secretary in charge of the state Harish Rawat about a CLP meeting being convened in the light of the issues raised by the MLAs. The purpose of the meeting was obvious, with the central leadership deputing leaders Harish Choudhary and Ajay Maken as observers for the event.

Meanwhile, AICC observers will stay in Chandigarh and next Punjab CM will be finalized by tonight/tomorrow morning.
