Jayalalithaa's close confidante and outlying contender to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) legacy VK Sasikala, hit a placatory note on Wednesday, urging all followers of Amma to unite and join forces against their 'common enemy' - Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) - in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Sasikala paid floral tributes to Jayalalithaa on her birth anniversary at the former's T Nagar residence in Chennai and made a very brief but pointed speech saying, "Amma’s followers should unite and fight for victory. In the forthcoming elections, our target is victory. Very soon I will meet cadre and the public."
It is interesting to note that Sasikala referred to the state government as ‘Amma's government’ and not 'AIADMK government'. "Amma had said that even after her demise, her government will continue for a hundred years. We should ensure that it happens. Let's work together to make her government win the election,” Chinnamma said.
After her return, Sasikala is eyeing to take back the control of the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, setting up a fight not only with Edappadi Palaniswami-O Panneerselvam, but also the Bharatiya Janata Party and the DMK ahead of the Tamil Nadu poll.
Now the only thing left to see is how the AIADMK would react to such a complex approach by Sasikala. Chinnamma is late Jayalalithaa's aide. She returned to Chennai recently after serving a four year prison sentence in Bengaluru following conviction in an assets case.
