Sukanta Majumdar becomes new Bengal BJP chief

Dilip has now been made a national vice president of the BJP

In a major development, The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday appointed  Sukanta Majumdar, Lok Sabh MP from Balurghat, as its West Bengal unit president, replacing Dilip Ghosh.

The development comes as the saffron party faced a series of crossovers to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in recent months.

Dilip, also a Lok Sabha MP, has now been made a national vice president of the BJP, the party said in a statement.

The decision is being seen as part of the saffron party's attempt to revive its organisation in the state amidst desertion by a number of its leaders.
