Union minister Narayan Rane detained over 'slap Uddhav' comment

Union minister Narayan Rane has been detained over his controversial remarks on slapping Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for what he claimed as the latter's ignorance of the year of India's independence.

 

The development comes amidst clashes and war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena workers.

 

The Shiv Sainiks raised slogans and placards against the Union minister, who had said that he "would have slapped Thackeray for forgetting India's year of independence".

 

A heavy police bandobast has been put in place in the city.

 

Meanwhile, Rane has approached the Bombay high court, challenging the FIRs registered against him in parts of Maharashtra.
