In the time of second corona wave in country, India is already facing many crisis and in this time Chef Saransh Goila has started a nationwide food initiative for COVID19 patients.
His initiative is called CovidMealsforIndia.com, where he curated a Pan India Google spreadsheet with details of various home chefs, tiffin providers, cooks, and restaurants that were crowd sourced through social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.
Several volunteers are also helps in curating regional food services lists which aim to connect covid patients who can't cook and require daily home-cooked meals to home chefs, volunteers, tiffin services, and delivery kitchens, who can provide these meals.
Saransh is the founder of a popular Mumbai-based restaurant 'Goila Butter Chicken’, and a known author of the acclaimed food travelogue 'India on my Platter’. He has also appeared in popular cookery shows including Sanjeev Kapoor Ke Kitchen Khiladi, Roti Rasta aur India and Healthy (as host), and even Master chef Australia as a guest judge.
He was helped by Karan Sood, the co-founder of Fastor (innovative technology startup in the food & retail sector, which has been delivering contactless payment portals to various restaurant chains within India and abroad)who helps in digitalize the process and make it accessible to even more people in much less time.
It is a simple 3-step process where the users can search their locality, find suppliers nearby and place their orders on Whatsapp easily.
Within 72 hours of the platform going live, it got hit with over 2 lakh clicks being made in 300 plus cities across the country. Currently, there are 3,000 service providers who are helping in reaching out to so many people in such less time and help them when they need it the most.
NGO’s also take up donations since they got plenty of requests where people were asking about how they can donate and become a part of it.
