Temple tour of South India: Udupi-Sringeri, the explorer's ecstasy of Karnataka

Udupi is founded in 13th century by Vaishnavite saint Madhavcharya, Sringeri founded in 8th century by Adi Sankaracharya.

Udupi is one of the holy city of Karnataka, located close to Mangalore and also connected from Bangalore. The most famous attraction here is the Krishna temple, which attracts lots of pilgrims from around the state. The temple was found in 13th century by Vaishnavite saint Madhavcharya. It is also one of the cultural city of India known for its vegetarian cuisines all around the world. The folk dance, snake worship are famous cultural attraction here. Sringeri, or the Shri Kshetra Sringeri established by Adi Sankaracharya in 8th century. Sri Sarada is the most ancient temple in this place. Together with Udupi and Sringeri both provide for religious tour of Karnataka.


Udupi-Sringeri: What to see?

In Udupi, visit the most famous Krishna temple situated here. Udupi Shree Krushnnna Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to god Krushna and Dvuyta Mutha, the temple also has ashram. Udupi Anantheshwara Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ananteshwara Parashurama. Sri Indrani Panchadurga Parameswari temple located here. Shri Chandramouleswaara Temple is another attraction dedicated to Krishna. Other temples are Prasanna Ganapathi Temple, Vishnumurthi Temple, Mahakali Temple, Bailoor Mahisasurmardini Temple, Jaya Durga Parmeswari Temple, Kanangi temple has Brahma, Vishnu, Maheswara worship together.Vadabandeswara Balram Temple dedicated to elder brother of Krishna. Shri Umamaheswara Shiva Temple. The places also has scenic beaches and heritage museum. In Sringeri one can visit Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam, Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, is one amongst the four cardinal pīthams established by the 8th century philosopher-saint Adi Sankara. Sri Sharadamba Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Saraswati, Vidyasankara temple on banks of river Tunga dedicated to Lord Shiva. There Torana Ganapathy temple and one Sirimane waterfalls located here.

How to go

Udupi can be easily reach from Mangalore city, Mangalore airport is nearest airport also by car from Mangalore. Udupi Railway station is the nearest railway station to reach Sringeri. Also one can go via road from Udupi to Sringeri.

Places to stay

Staying is not a problem in Udupi and Sringeri as both has plenty of numbers of hotels provided with all amenities and comfort and facilities at very budget rates. One can easily find comfort home by INR 3000 per night. Most of the hotels are budget hotels with starting from INR 1000.
