The head of Apple's electric car project Doug Field is now leaving the company for Ford motors. The vehicle company has named Field as their company's embedded systems officer and chief advanced technology.
Field served as VP and in Special Projects at Apple. Before joining Apple Inc, he was the senior vice president, Engineering, at the electric vehicle company Tesla. He will directly report to Ford CEO Jim Farley.
Farley in a statement said, "Doug Field is one of the world's most respected engineering and product design leaders and has been a driving force behind breakthrough products across auto, tech and mobility, including at Apple, Tesla and Segway".
The ex-Apple executive will lead Ford's Embedded Software and Hardware organization which currently consists of enterprise connectivity, vehicle controls, features, integration and validation, architecture platform, driver assistance technology and digital engineering tools.
Apple Car has hired two former Mercedes engineers with experience in mass production of vehicles, steering, dynamics, software and project management.
