Samsung SDI considering building battery plant in Illinois, says Senator

The Senator said that the Samsung officials came from Korea to discuss the project

US Senator Dick Durbin said that Samsung SDI is considering building a battery plant in central Illinois.

 

Rivian, an electric-vehicle startup, has a factory in Normal, Illinois and the South Korean company would supply battery cells for its vehicles.

 

Durbin said that the Samsung officials came from Korea to discuss the project. The decision of placement of the factory whether it will be set up near Rivian will be taken later but it will surely create numerous jobs for thousands of people.

 

The Korean company is considering around Rs. 19,050 crores to manufacture batteries for Stellantis which is another automobile company and a minimum of Rs. 6,350 crores for batteries for Rivian.

 

The EV battery plants of Samsung are located in South Korea, China, and Hungary, which are supplied to customers such as BMW, Ford, Volvo, and Volkswagen.
