TikTok owner ByteDance acquires VR headset maker Pico

The Chinese company did not disclose the amount of the deal

ByteDance, the owner of TikTok has made its way into virtual reality (VR) through the acquisition of a start-up called Pico.

The Chinese company did not disclose the amount of the deal but said "comprehensive suite of software and hardware technologies, as well as the talent and deep expertise of the team, will support both our entry to the VR space and long-term investment in this emerging field."

The company Pico is the third-largest VR headset maker in the world in the first quarter of the current year.

Presently, ByteDance's possession of Pico could compete against Facebook's Oculus VR division, while last year Apple bought NextVR, a virtual reality company, sparking speculation it could be working on it's own VR headsets in future.
