Yahoo shuts news sites in India over FDI norms for digital media

The search engine said that they have been impacted by the changes to regulatory laws in India

Due to the new FDI regulations for digital media ownership made by the government, Yahoo India has shut down all it's news sites which covered finance, cricket, sports, entertainment etc.

 

According to new FDI regulations for digital media, foreign ownership of media outlets that operate and publish digital content in India in the ‘News and Current Affairs’ space are not allowed. However, Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Search will continue to work as usual.

 

The Yahoo India website has published a statement in which they said that they are closing all of their content operations in the country which will be effective from 26 August, 2021.

 

Yahoo India said that they have been impacted by the changes to regulatory laws in India and has shown gratitude to the users in India. They also said that it will remain open to opportunities which connect it to the users in India.
