In an ongoing test match between India and Sri Lanka, Ravichandran Ashwin achieved another milestone of becoming India's second-highest wicket-taker in the Test format. On Day 3 of the first match of the series, Ashwin took his 435th wicket hence surpassing Kapil Dev who has 434 wickets to his name.

 

In the second session on the third day, R. Ashwin took the wicket of Charith Asalanka to mark the 435th wicket to his name. In the first innings, he had garnered two wickets for 49 runs in 20 overs he had bowled.

 

Wickets taken in the maiden match of the Test series against Sri Lanka, being played in Mohali, have made Ashwin the 9th highest wicket-takers of all time after surpassing New Zealand's Richard Hadlee (431) and Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath (432).

 

As far as the active test cricketers are concerned, Ashwin is the third-highest wicket-takers preceded by England’s fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad, who have so far taken 640 and 537 wickets respectively.
