Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist of 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games, slept with the gold medal close to his pillow. He was not able to sleep peacefully for a long time but on Saturday night, for those couple of hours, he was on bed, the gold medal was beside his pillows.
"Yes I had kept it with me (while sleeping). I couldn't sleep much, maybe around one or two hours. This feeling is still sinking in. It's still coming to me in some new form or the other, that I have managed to do something like this for the country which will be
remembered," he said.
Neeraj also said how he looked up to Abhinav Bindra and wanted to be like him. He always thought how the sole winner of Olympic gold might have felt. His wish of joining Bindra was fulfilled when he in his first attempt, threw the javelin 87.03m and surpassed it in second attempt with 87.58m to claim the gold medal as a reward. Chopra said joining Bindra was like a dream come true.
The first Indian gold medalist also congratulated Chopra for winning the first gold medal in athletics in Tokyo Olympics by delivering a heartfelt message through his Twitter account.
