An Indian-origin man in the United States has been charged with murdering and sexually assaulting his 65-year-old mother at their home in New York on the eve of Mother's Day.
Pushkar Sharma, killed his mother, Saroj Sharma, on Saturday morning at their home in Jamaica's Bellerose Manor.
According to the criminal complaint, “with an uncontrollable urge to hurt someone”, the accused grabbed his mother from behind, choked and stabbed her until she collapsed on the floor.
Once down, the son allegedly continued the abuse by strangling and hitting his mother before sexually assaulting her. The victim lost consciousness and died.
According to the criminal complaint, Sharma told police that “he continued choking her (mother) until he was pretty sure she was dead.”
Covered in blood, the 28-year-old gathered his wallet and keys and walked to the 105th Precinct, where he confessed to the unimaginable violence.
Saroj's daughter found her mother unconscious in the cellar and rushed her to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The accused has been charged with murder and sexual assault. His court appearance is scheduled for May 24.
