Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos announced that he's shelling out a massive amount of his own cash to two men on Tuesday.
After an eleven minute flight to space that took him 66.5 miles above the surface of the Earth, Jeff Bezos tried to improve the life on the planet.
At the end of a press conference after his flight on the Blue Origin New Shepard rocket, he announced a USD 100 million award to José Andrés who is a renowned chef and co-founder of World Central Kitchen which is a non profit organizations that helps to feed and support people in disaster-stricken areas around the world.
And another USD 100 million to the controversial CNN contributor Van Jones, honoring the criminal justice reform advocate and Dream Corps founder.
Jeff Bezos thanked all the members of the Blue Origin team that made his space flight possible and also the Texas town of Van Horn that hosted his Tuesday's launch.
He further expressed his gratitude towards Amazon and said,"I want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer, cause you guys paid for all this. Thank you from the bottom of my heart very much."
In an interview, Jeff Bezos addressed critics who argue his wealth and attention would serve better if directed toward more urgent needs on our planet.
To which he said that there are a lot of problems on Earth and all need to work on thos as the people always need to look to the future.
He added that perhaps "amazing things" next generations might do in space which "will solve problems here on Earth."
