Backpacker missing from UK found in Kolkata's New Town

The 30-year-old, who could not be traced by her family in the UK, had gone missing since past five months.

A British backpacker, who was out on a world tour reported to the RWA office of a high-rise complex in New Town in Kolkata on Tuesday, pleading with residents and officials to send her home.

 

The 30-year-old Tanya Jeal, who could not be traced by her family in the UK, had gone missing since past five months.

 

The New Town police were immediately contacted by RWA members, who then reached out to the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata and put her up at a home in Park Street for the time being.

 

British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata issued a statement confirming the details, "We are aware of a British national in Kolkata and are providing consular assistance."

 

A resident of Bromley in England, Tanya had left her home in the early November of 2019 with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

 

She landed in India, in December 2019 after her trips to Italy, Egypt, Myanmar, and Thailand. Kolkata police further informed that the woman's visa expired last December, after which she moved into the New Town flat by herself.
