Gas cylinder explosion kills 9 in Pakistan

The injured people are in a critical condition and were shifted to a hospital

Nine people are reported to have died and three injured when a gas cylinder of a passenger van exploded in the Pakistan's Gujranwala district.

The explosion occurred when workers were repairing a gas cylinder using a welding machine. The deceased includes three locals an five Afghan nationals.

Report said that the vehicle caught fire leading the explosion, killing five people at the spot while four others gave in to injuries in hospital.

Firefighters rushed to the site to drench the fire and retrieve the bodies of the dead. Vehicles in Punjab district of Pakistan are authorized to run on gas cylinders, but the incompetently maintained vehicles often pose a threat for the travelers.

Hospital authorities reported that the injured had sustained severe wounds as they were buried under debris. The blast reportedly also demolished four other shops and spread panic among citizens.
