Kremlin plans to place Viktor Yanukovych as Ukraine President: Report

The Western officials believe that Putin wants to overthrow the elected government in Kiev

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who is a pro-Russian politician, is being prepared by the Kremlin for a special role. It is known that he fled to Russia in 2014, following a massive protest from the Ukrainians.

As per the report from the Ukrainian intelligence, Russia will declare him as the "President of Ukraine", if the invasion is successful. It is claimed that the Kremlin may be preparing an informational operation or action for Yanukovych's return to Ukraine.

Viktor Yanukovych:

He was elected as the fourth president of Ukraine in the year 2010 and he remained in power until the Maidan Revolution in Ukraine. In this revolution, numerous violent clashes involving protesters, riot police, and shooters in the capital city resulted in the overthrow of the Ukrainian government in February 2014 and Yanukovych was removed from office.

The protests were a response to Yanukovych's refusal to sign a political and trade agreement with the European Union (EU).

It is known that he then made his way to Russia, where he continues to live in exile under the protection of Russia.

As per several experts, his proximity to the Kremlin along with his previous tenure as a democratically elected President of Ukraine, makes him a significant candidate for Putin. The Western officials believe that Putin wants to overthrow the elected government in Kiev and then install a puppet government in its place. It is also being viewed in the context of Russia's efforts to rekindle the map of Europe and revive Moscow's Cold War-era influence or the mighty USSR.
