Train derails in Montana: 3 dead, many injured

The Local authorities and Amtrak are working to transfer the injured passengers to the hospital

One of the Amtrak train which runs between Seattle and Chicago derailed in north-central Montana. The accident resulted in atleast three death on Saturday afternoon. An official with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident. Dispatcher Starr Tyler said that three people died in the derailment while Amtrak said in a statement that there were multiple injuries reported from the incident.
 
Jason Abrams, Amtrak spokesman said in a statement that the Empire Builder train derailed at 4 p.m. near Joplin, a town of about 200. As per reports, the unfortunate incident happened around 241 kilometers north of Helena and about 48 kilometers from the border with Canada. The spokesperson added that the train had 147 passengers and thirteen crew members on board. The Local authorities and Amtrak are working to transfer the injured passengers to the hospital and safely evacuate all other passengers.


 
Some pictures clicked by the people are posted on social media which showed several cars on sideline and passengers were standing alongside the tracks, some carrying luggage. It can be seen that the accident occurred along a straight section of tracks.
 
In the U.S. and Canada, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation is doing business as Amtrak. It is a passenger railroad service which provides medium and long-distance inter-city rail service in the bordering US cities to nine cities in Canada.
