US Vice-President Harris to meet PM Narendra Modi on September 23

The world leaders will gather in New York during this week to attend the annual session of the UN General Assembly

 

United States Vice President Kamala Harris will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 September in Washington, ahead of maiden bilateral meet between PM Modi and US President Joe Biden, according to the senior officials.


A White House senior official told the Press Trust of India, "The Vice President will meet with His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India."


This will be the first meeting between the two leaders; however, they had earlier spoken over calls during the Covid-19 crisis.


Kamala Harris is the first ever person of Indian origin to be elected as the United States Vice President.


As per to a senior White House official, Harris Kamala will also lead a session at the President's virtual Covid-19 Summit on building back better and preparing and prohibiting future pandemics.


President Joe Biden will host PM Narendra Modi for their first in-person bilateral meeting on September 24 at the White House.


President Biden will host the first-ever in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit at the White House later on the day with PM Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.


The White House official said this in person meeting of the two prominent leaders will be an opportunity to really go from strength to strength from the point of view of US global partnership with India.


The official added, "by working together to uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific and our two countries were both vital in the global fight against Covid-19. And by taking conservative actions to address the climate crisis."


The official further said that President Biden and PM Modi will give momentum to the Quad discussion.


The world leaders will gather in New York during this week to attend the annual session of the UN General Assembly.


US Vice president Kamala Harris is scheduled to hold meetings with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on Wednesday and President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday.
