Indian origin senator Kamala Harris to be sworn in as the first female Vice President of USA

Joe Biden will take oath as the 46th president of the United States tonight. "It’s hard sometimes to remember. But that’s how we heal. It’s important to do that as a nation. That’s why we’re here today. Between sundown and dusk, let us shine the lights in the darkness along the sacred pool of reflection and remember all whom we lost,” Biden said.

Kamala Harris will take oath of office, following which Biden will deliver his inaugural speech laying down the vision of his administration. The villagers of Thulasendrapuram; the ancestral village of Kamala Harris in Tamil Nadu started celebration  bursting crackers and distributing sweets in front of a temple.
Villagers also organised a special puja at the Sri Dharma Sastha temple. The village is located in Tiruvarur district.

Harris became the first woman VP-elect of the United States after winning the 2020 elections. People celebrated and wished for her success in her office by holding placards. Thulasendrapuram is the native village of Kamala’s maternal grandfather PV Gopalan - former Indian diplomat.

American singer-songwriter Garth Brooks will join celebrities scheduled to perform at Joe Biden's inauguration alongside previously announced acts Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.Celebrated actor Tom Hanks will host a 90-minute special that will lead into the ceremony. The special, titled 'Celebrating America' will be broadcast on social media as well as NewsNow from Fox, ABC, CBS and Amazon Prime Video. Stars like Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Ant Clemons and Jon Bon Jovi are expected to appear for performances during the special.

Donald Trump extended his wishes to the Biden administration. “This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous,” Trump said.“I did not seek the easiest course… By far, it was actually the most difficult. I did not seek the path that would get the least criticism. I took on the tough battles, the hardest fights, the most difficult choices, because that’s what you elected me to do. Your needs were my first and last unyielding focus,” he added.

Trump will not attend Biden’s inauguration ceremony after the Capitol Hill siege which taken place weeks ago, there are extraordinary levels of security in place for the inauguration ceremony that is expected to begin at 8.30 pm IST.
